PlayStation Portal in the UAE: what it does, what it needs and who should buy it
, by la3eb, 2 min reading time
The PlayStation Portal streams your PS5 games to an 8 inch screen anywhere in the house. What it can and cannot do, UAE price, and the Wi-Fi it needs.
The PlayStation Portal is the easiest way to keep playing your PS5 when someone else wants the TV. It is not a handheld console: it streams games from your own PS5 over Wi-Fi to an 8 inch 1080p screen with a full DualSense split down the middle. At la3eb it is AED 926 at the time of writing, with free delivery across the uae and saudi arabia
What it does well
- Plays your whole PS5 library, including PS5 Pro enhanced games, because the PS5 does the work.
- Full DualSense features: haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which phone and tablet remote play cannot match.
- Starts fast. Press the power button, the PS5 wakes from rest mode, and you are in the game in seconds.
- Great for villas and larger flats where the PS5 is in the living room and the gamer is not.
What it does not do
- It does not play games on its own. You need a PS5 (any model) turned on or in rest mode.
- It does not have Bluetooth audio. Use the 3.5 mm jack, or a PlayStation Link headset such as the Pulse Elite or Pulse Explore.
- It depends on your home Wi-Fi. A 5 GHz connection with the PS5 on cable or strong Wi-Fi gives the best result; a weak signal means a blurry, laggy picture.
Who should buy it
| You | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Share the TV with family and still want to play your PS5 games | Buy it |
| Play mostly single-player and story games | Buy it |
| Play competitive shooters where every frame matters | Play on the TV instead |
| Want a device for travelling without a PS5 | This is not it; look at the Nintendo Switch 2 or Switch Lite |
