A bigger, sharper screen, more power when docked and new Joy-Con. Here is what changed, which box to buy and what to play first.
Nintendo Switch 2 keeps the idea that made the first Switch work, one console for the TV and for handheld play, and upgrades almost everything around it.
What is new
- Screen: a 7.9-inch 1080p display with HDR and up to 120Hz in handheld mode
- On the TV: up to 4K output when docked
- Storage: 256GB built in, eight times the original Switch
- Joy-Con 2: they attach magnetically and can be used like a mouse in supported games
- GameChat: voice and video chat with friends from the C button
- Your old games: most Nintendo Switch games play on Switch 2
Console or bundle?
You can buy the Nintendo Switch 2 alone, or the Mario Kart World Bundle, which packs the console with Mario Kart World. If you were going to buy the game anyway, the bundle is the simpler choice.
What to play first
- Donkey Kong Bananza: a 3D platformer built around smashing through the world
- Kirby Air Riders: fast, simple racing for one player or a group
- Pokemon Pokopia: a relaxed life sim set in the Pokemon world
